Camille Edwards forged an extremely
successful career in the media for 30 years because she was an expert at
networking. She has a very natural, but focused approach to making contacts and
then maintaining the relationship once it’s established. The first hurdle
Edwards says is making the contact. “Whether you’re at an event or doing
something ordinary in your personal life you must always be prepared to
network.” According to Edwards that means being ready and able to start a
conversation with someone.
You have to get over your fears when making the
approach. Saying hello and introducing yourself is the first step. She suggests
being brief but deliberate in making sure the person knows who you are and will
remember you. Camille Edwards then suggests asking if it’s ok to follow up. If
they say yes, then make sure to do so. After that it’s up to you to keep the
relationship going says Edwards.
